CaneLink Tips and Tricks

Browser Set Up – Cookies and Pop-ups must be enabled.

Cookies are small files that web servers may send to your computer in order to identify your computer and transmit certain data. CaneLink makes use of cookies and requires them in order to access the system.

To ensure that cookies are enabled, do the following:

Firefox

• Click on Tools Menu from the Menu Bar
• Click on Options
• Click on the Privacy Icon in the ribbon at the top of the window
• Set “Firefox will” to “Use custom settings for History”
• Check “Accept cookies from sites”
Google Chrome • Click on the icon on the far right of your browser: Customize and control Google Chrome
• Click on “Show Advanced Settings”
• Under Privacy, click on Content Settings
• Scroll down to Cookies
• Make sure that the button labeled “Block third-party cookies and site data” is unchecked.
MS Internet Explorer (IE) • Choose Tools -> Internet Options.
• Click the Privacy tab.
• Make sure the slider is set to Medium High or lower.
Safari • Click on the icon on the far right of your browser “Display a menu of general Sarfari Settings”
• Click on Preferences
• Click on Privacy
• Check “Never” for the Block Cookies choice.

You need to enable pop-ups on your browser. Enabling pop-ups is different for each browser. To ensure that pop-ups are enabled please do the following:

Firefox

• Click on Tools Menu from the Menu Bar
• Click on Options
• Click on the Content Icon in the ribbon at the top of the window
• Make sure that “Block pop-up windows” is unchecked.
Google Chrome • Click on the icon on the far right of your browser: Customize and control Google Chrome
• Click on “Show Advanced Settings”
• Under Privacy, click on Content Settings
• Scroll down to Pop-Ups
• Make sure that the radio-button labeled “Allow all sites to show pop-ups” is selected.
MS Internet Explorer (IE) • Choose Tools -> Internet Options.
• Click the Privacy tab.
• Make sure that the Pop-up Blocker is not checked.
Safari • Click on the icon on the far right of your browser “display a menu of general Sarfari Settings”
• Click on Preferences
• Click on the Security icon in the ribbon at the top of the window.
• Make sure that Block pop-up windows is unchecked.

Favorites – Create shortcuts to CaneLink pages that you will use often.

Navigate to the page. Click “Add to Favorites.” You can edit the description before saving it. Later you can Edit Favorites to edit the description, change the order that favorites appear in your menu or delete shortcuts that are no longer favorites. Use "My Favorites" to navigate to your saved favorites.

Set Up SACR - Tired of having to keep typing in MIAMI for the institution and re-typing ID numbers over and over again. Then navigate to Set Up SACR -> User Defaults and enter the following on each tab:
User Defaults 1 – Academic Institution = MIAMI Facility Group SetID: MIAMI
User Defaults 2 – SetID = MIAMI Business Unit = MIAMI
User Defaults 4 Carry ID Institution Set = MIAMI
Career Group SetID = MIAMI

One thing you can easily do is save your search criteria. Navigate to a search screen and fill out the data you want as the default. Then click Save Search Criteria:

Search Criteria
Try using Personalize Page feature on the pages you use most often.
You can have a different tab at the top open when you complete a search
Always have your search open up with View All activated
Create a new tabbing order so you can enter items in your own sequence

If after you try these you don’t like them you can always Restore Defaults.
